OPINION: Cara Delevingne’s Obnoxious Behavior Stole the Spotlight at the Billboard Music Awards

Megan Thee Stallion was pictured barely tolerating Cara Delevingne’s erratic behavior at the BBMAs on Sunday. The supermodel appeared attached at the hip to Megan throughout the night, standing a few feet away from her on the red carpet and being seated next to her inside the event.

Clips surfaced showing Delevingne repeatedly flinging the train of the Texan rapper’s Mugler dress into the air during a photo op. Delevingne appeared in other clips frequently sticking her tongue out and popping into conversations between Megan, Doja Cat, and others like a crazed groundhog. These incidents follow another recent clip of Delevigne apparently moving in to kiss Megan at a Met Gala afterparty, and getting gently pushed away by the rapper.

Onlookers took to social media to commiserate in the cringe. “Your chances of being watched by Cara Delevingne are slim but never zero,” read one viral Tweet. Another pointed out that the Paper Towns actress “exudes ‘where’s my hug’” energy. The British party girl’s antics were so cringeworthy that a Twitter user declared, “Cara Delevingne’s behavior so greatly outweighs anything embarrassing I’ve ever done that I think she cured my anxiety.”

On the same day, social media users dug up an excerpt from Julia Fox’s Forbidden Fruits podcast recounting her experience witnessing a “wasted” Delevingne make a scene at an Azealia Banks concert in November 2021. Fox and co-host Niki Takesh recalled Delevingne “rushing past security” and attempting to climb onto the stage.

The Uncut Gems actress “could tell by Azealia’s face, she was over it. She was like, ‘OK, let me have my moment.’” The video of Delevingne’s unwelcome advances got reposted on Twitter, where the U.K. native is shown sticking out her tongue mere inches away from Banks’ leg mid-performance, accompanied by the caption, “can we ban cara delevingne from hollywood.”

Second hand embarrassment aside, some leveled accusations that Delevingne is guilty of fetishizing black women. It’s a heavy accusation, but not quite as serious as being hella corny and lacking any awareness of social cues, which is more likely to be the root of Delevingne’s questionable public behavior.

The supermodel has yet to respond to the scandal since the BBMAs. Megan Thee Stallion cropped her out of a photo with Doja Cat from the award show, so we can take an educated guess how she felt after the night.
