As a postal employee, it is correct to say that large numbers of employees will take extended sick leave, increasing the workload on others to the point of people beginning to retire and/or quit. It is also important to note, when people are on extended sick leave, they cannot be replaced until after they either retire or resign. I have worked in a similar situation with high extended sick leave rate and can attest to the fact it was miserable working conditions. Working 6 days a week, 10-12 hours a day and sometimes even more, wears on you. We would get new hires to start and they would quit within a week or two. The situation would be similar, except, now the post office starts new hires at less than $18/hr with no benefits and are only considered temporary employees. There is a limit on the total number of the “temporary employees” so with the mass exodus of employees and long work hours, it will be difficult if not near impossible to have enough people staffed at any given day to adequately process and deliver the mail on a daily basis
Maybe they exempt the post office so that they can still move ballets for the run off elections. I assume that they still do early balloting for run offs.
They did deliver him an election by mail that he may want them to keep hush hush about for now.
