You guys don’t describe primitive life accurately. No matter how strong a human male may be, he’s not going to prevail in one on one physical combat with a bear, a wolf, or a big cat. However, if you have two or more males together, they can easily overcome any predator through intelligence and cooperation. It wasn’t the fastest or strongest male that accumulated power in the tribe, it was a combination of daring, strength, and leadership. As for the physique of the runners, a sprinter requires large muscle mass for short bursts of duration. A long distance runner requires minimal body mass ong with large lungs for endurance. On the African plains 15K years ago the sprinter is going to die. The endurance runner can track down prey until it is exhausted and weakened. Then they can easily kill it and harvest its flesh. The challenge for them is to keep their prey for themselves when the sprinters come sniffing around for a free meal.
