'We Have Your Back': California Launches New Abortion Resource Website

'Abortion Remains Legal And Protected In California,' The Governor Declared

California has launched a website dedicated to providing abortion services for women regardless of their state of residence, Governor Gavin Newsom announced in a Sept. 13 video published to his Twitter.

“California just launched a brand new resource. A resource for those seeking care, whether you live here or not,” Newsom said in the video as he directed viewers to the state’s new website which is currently live.

The site allows Californians to search for their nearest abortion provider by city including address, phone number, and the location’s website along with a list of specific services provided by each location.

Women living out of state and seeking an abortion are linked to a directory of additional resources like abortionfinder.org, which provides users with information with each state’s legal stance on abortion.

FPA Women’s Health offers “gynecology, birth control, abortion and STI testing services in California and online,” according to their website. Also listed are links to other abortion clinics including Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion Federation.

“This website is a safe space for you to find abortion information. Your personal information is not saved or tracked,” the site informs users and also links to California Attorney General Rob Bonta’s office’s website where they can find an in-depth explanation of abortion rights according to California state law.

The website also claims it ensures user’s privacy, though cautions non-California residents to protect their digital privacy. Most private insurers reportedly cover abortion costs, according to the site, but uninsured users are also provided a list of further resources.

“Abortion remains legal, and protected in California,” Newsom insists towards the end of the video. “We have your back.”

The Governor’s Twitter account also took aim at South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham over a new abortion bill he proposed.

“Make no mistake—Lindsey Graham’s new national ban on abortion is about controlling women. That’s their agenda. CA’s fighting back. Today, we’re launching a NEW website to provide resources for women to get reproductive care — no matter where they live.”

On Tuesday, the Protecting Pain-Capable Unborn Children from Late-Term Abortions Act was introduced into the Senate. The legislation seeks to federally ban abortions after 15 weeks, though it would reportedly allow for “situations involving rape, incest or risks to the life and physical health of the mother,” Axios reported.

“We will introduce legislation … to get America in a position at the federal level I think is fairly consistent with the rest of the world,” Graham said Tuesday during the bill’s announcement, the outlet noted. “If we take back the House and Senate, I can assure you we’ll have a vote.”
