The Planned Parenthood website has been edited to remove the distinction between treatment for an ectopic pregnancy and abortion.
Ectopic pregnancy, when an embryo implants in the fallopian tubes, is never viable and is sometimes fatal for the mother.
With Roe v. Wade being overturned and abortion restrictions being set in many states, ectopic pregnancy removals have been frequently used as a talking point to make the case for lack of abortion access being potentially deadly.
However, the Planned Parenthood website long stated that “treating an ectopic pregnancy isn’t the same thing as getting an abortion.”
“Abortion is a medical procedure that when done safely, ends a pregnancy that’s in your uterus,” Planned Parenthood had explained.
It went on to say that “ectopic pregnancies are unsafely outside of your uterus (usually in the fallopian tubes), and are removed with a medicine called methotrexate or through a laparoscopic surgical procedure. The medical procedures for abortions are not the same as the medical procedures for an ectopic pregnancy.”
The abortion provider has now removed the distinction entirely.
Just days ago, Live Action News documented that Planned Parenthood’s website stated, “Treating an ectopic pregnancy isn’t the same thing as getting an abortion.”

The website now reads, “Ectopic pregnancies are unsafely outside of your uterus (usually in the fallopian tubes), and are removed with a medicine called methotrexate or through a laparoscopic surgical procedure. The medical procedures for terminating a pregnancy in the uterus are usually different from the medical procedures for terminating an ectopic pregnancy.”
Live Action News, an anti-abortion website, explained that this is not the first time that Planned Parenthood has made serious changes to the website.
Planned Parenthood began scrubbing their website, and even a prestigious award, of eugenicist and Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger’s name.
“Planned Parenthood’s so-called ‘Maggie Award,’ named ‘after Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger,’ quietly transitioned into the Planned Parenthood ‘Media Award.’ Sanger was a known eugenicist who selected population control enthusiasts, fellow eugenicists, and white supremacists for her board; she was celebrated by Planned Parenthood for decades,” Live Action reports.
In 2017, after Live Action did a report on the lack of prenatal care being provided, despite being advertised by the organization, Planned Parenthood also scrubbed mention of that ever being offered.
