The creator of Libs of TikTok pressed New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on an allegation during a surprise confrontation on Capitol Hill.
Chaya Raichik, the creator of the popular social media channels that document posts from left-leaning users, asked Ocasio-Cortez outside of her office why she lied about her on the House floor.
The congresswoman said Raichik has posted “false information about Boston Children’s Hospital” during a hearing in February. Ocasio-Cortez denounced a Libs of TikTok post from August of 2022 which she allegedly inaccurately claims “doctors at the hospital said they were offering ‘gender-affirming hysterectomies’ to young girls.”
A video of Boston Children’s Hospital’s Psychologist Kerry McGregor confirming the hospital offered “gender-affirming” top surgeries to children who identify as transgender went viral after it was shared by Libs of TikTok.
“Even if parents are concerned that it’s a phase, we never want to tell the child that they shouldn’t be expressing their gender identity or that they should be ashamed for the way that they are expressing their gender identity because that can be quite harmful,” McGregor said in the video. “We just want to give the child a chance to develop and explore on their own.”
McGregor said that the hospital’s Gender Multispecialty Service saw children between the ages of two and nine. The hospital’s website notes it provides “gender-affirming hysterectomies on patients over the age of 18.“
Following the widespread backlash, Boston Children’s Hospital removed the video.
Ocasio-Cortez suggested during her testimony that Libs of TikTok’s post inspired a bomb threat at the hospital.
“Despite inspiring a bomb threat due to the right-wing incitement of violence against trans Americans in this country, because they cannot let go of this obsession with fixating violence and inciting violence against trans and LGBT people in addition to immigrants, in addition to women of color,” said Ocasio-Cortez. “This is the party that cannot pick on anyone their own size.”
In a video filmed inside the Cannon Building, Raichik was told by an aide that Ocasio-Cortez was not in her office. The aide also denied Raichik’s request to speak with the congresswoman’s chief of staff.
“I don’t think we’re going to get to talk with her. I don’t know if she’s in or not, but I think that door slam was really telling,” she said after the aide closed the office door. “I don’t think they want to talk to us.”
Before leaving, Raichik added a post-it note to the collection left on Ocasio-Cortez’s door.
“Dear AOC. Please don’t lie about American citizens. Love Chaya,” she wrote, per Fox News.
