Justice Clarence Thomas Released from Hospital After Being Treated For An Infection

Thomas's wife is currently being scrutinized for texts she sent to Mark Meadows regarding the 2020 election

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has been released from the Washington D.C. hospital he was admitted to last week.

Thomas was undergoing treatment for infection at Sibley Memorial Hospital after experiencing flu-like symptoms.

“He underwent tests, was diagnosed with an infection, and is being treated with intravenous antibiotics,” the Court said in a statement. “His symptoms are abating, he is resting comfortably, and he expects to be released from the hospital in a day or two.”

A spokesperson for the court said the 73-year-old Justice had been discharged on March 25. There were no further updates about his condition.

While hospitalized, Thomas was absent from three days of oral arguments. He is still expected to participate in the consideration and case discussion after reviewing transcripts, audio recordings of the arguments, and case briefs.

Retiring Justice Stephen Miller told TMZ outside of a Georgetown cafe on March 24 that Thomas was “doing fine” and that his condition was not serious.

Thomas’s discharge comes amid ongoing controversy involving his wife, Virginia Thomas, and comments she made regarding the 2020 election.

According to Reuters, Mrs. Thomas sent text messages to former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows to recommend he pursue overturning the election results.

“Sounds like Sidney [Powell] and her team are getting inundated with evidence of fraud. Make a plan. Release the Kraken and save us from the left taking America down,” Mrs. Thomas said in one of 29 messages reported by the Washington Post, which had reportedly obtained copies of the texts.

The messages were provided to the Jan. 6 Committee as part of its investigation into the security breach at the Capitol in 2021.

“Like so many married couples, we share many of the same ideals, principles, and aspirations for America, but we have our own separate careers, and our own ideas and opinions too,” Mrs. Thomas said in an interview with the Washington Free Beacon on March 14. “Clarence doesn’t discuss his work with me, and I don’t involve him in my work.”

Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar called for Justice Thomas to be impeached on March 25 on Twitter for voting against the release of documents relating to Trump’s action on Jan. 6.

Thomas is the longest-serving justice on the Court. He was appointed by President George H. W. Bush and has served since 1991.
