Georgia Gubernatorial Candidate Stacey Abrams Says Abortion Can Help Address Inflation Issues

Democrat Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams suggested that abortion can help address inflation issues during an interview with MSNBC on Wednesday.

Abrams made the remarks during an appearance on Morning Joe.

The candidate was pressed by the host about the rising cost of living. He asked, “while abortion is an issue, it nowhere near reaches the level of interest of voters in terms of the cost of gas, food, bread, milk… what could you do as governor to alleviate the concerns of Georgia voters about those livability, daily, hourly issues that they’re confronted with?”

The candidate responded by saying that “having children is why you’re worried about your price for gas, it’s why you’re concerned about how much food costs.”

“You can’t divorce being forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy from the economic realities of having a child,” Abrams continued, adding that “we don’t have the luxury of reducing it, or separating them out.”

Abrams avoided offering policy solutions to counter inflation, instead saying that “a governor can address housing prices, a governor can address the cost of educations, a governor can put money in the pockets of everyday hardworking Georgians instead of giving tax cuts to the wealthy.”

“But let’s not pretend that women — half the population — especially of childbearing age, they understand that having a child is absolutely an economic issue. It’s only politicians that see it as just another cultural conversation,” the candidate continued.

Abrams is running against Republican Governor Brian Kemp for the second time after losing her first bid in 2018.

Kemp responded to Abram’s remarks on Twitter, writing that he will combat inflation by suspending the gas tax, sending another $1 billion back to taxpayers, passing a property tax rebate for homeowners, and implementing the largest tax cut in state history.

‘No Such Thing As A Heartbeat At Six Weeks,’ Stacy Abrams Declares

In September, Abrams made headlines when she claimed that “there is no such thing as a heartbeat at six weeks.”

The month before the heartbeat remark, Abrams claimed that “it is lethal to be pregnant in Georgia if you are a Black woman.”
