A George Floyd mural in Ohio crumbled following a lightning strike in Toledo on Tuesday.
Only the portion of the wall that previously featured Floyd’s face appeared to be damaged.
Witnesses told police that the street art was struck by lightning, which was confirmed by ABC 13’s doppler radar.
13abc’s Dopler Radar did show a lightning strike in that block at about 4:30 PM this afternoon. https://t.co/sivCiT991j

The weather was sunny and mild, according to the weather reports. It was around 73 degrees with scattered clouds.
ABC 13 reports that “the mural was painted nearly one year to the date of its collapse in July 2020. Groups have held memorial services for Floyd in front of the mural, including on the one-year anniversary of his death at the hands of Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin.”

Naturally, the news sparked countless commentators stating that it was an “act of God.”

Many quoted scripture, specifically Deuteronomy 5:6-9, which states “I am the Lord your God … You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. You shall not worship them or serve them.”

Others joked about how it is yet another building destroyed in connection with Floyd, referencing the violent riots and chaos across the nation during the summer of 2020.
