DeSantis Comments on Possible Trump Indictment With a Jab: 'I Don’t Know What Goes Into Paying Hush Money to a Porn Star'

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has broken his silence on the possible indictment of Donald Trump with jabs at both the former president and the “Soros-funded prosecutor” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

Trump has said he expects to be arrested on Tuesday over an indictment in New York.

DeSantis had been noticeably silent about the looming arrest over the weekend, prompting calls from Trump supporters for him to speak out.

When asked about the situation at a press conference on Monday, DeSantis said that “I have no interest in getting involved in some manufactured circus by some Soros-DA.”

“He’s trying to do a political spectacle. He’s trying to virtue signal for his base. I’ve got real issues I got to deal with here in the state of Florida,” DeSantis continued. “I don’t know what’s going to happen but I do know this: the Manhattan district attorney is a Soros-funded prosecutor.”

Soros, a far-left billionaire who tends to fund extremist candidates, had donated at least a million dollars to Braggs’ campaign through his Color of Change PAC. In their endorsement, the PAC noted that the now-District Attorney would not continue a justice system that “protects and privileges the powerful and well-connected.”

DeSantis commented on the politicization of the justice system by noting all the recent crimes in Manhattan that Bragg does not appear to be focused on — before launching a verbal grenade at Trump.

“I don’t know what goes into paying hush money to a porn star to secure silence over some type of alleged affair, I just, I can’t speak to that,” DeSantis said, before turning back to Bragg and saying, “that’s an example of pursuing a political agenda.”

The possible indictment stems from an alleged $130,000 hush money payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016 over an alleged sexual encounter that the two had in 2006. His former attorney, Michael Cohen, pleaded guilty to charges over the payment in 2018 and was sentenced to three years in prison.

The comment lit a fire among Trump supporters and political commentators.

Donald Trump Jr. also weighed in, tweeting, “So DeSantis thinks that Dems weaponizing the law to indict President Trump is a ‘manufactured circus’ & isn’t a ‘real issue’ Pure weakness. Now we know why he was silent all weekend. He’s totally owned by Karl Rove, Paul Ryan & his billionaire donors. 100% Controlled Opposition.”
