Actor Michael Rapaport posted a video Tuesday that he says shows a shoplifter causally walking out of a New York City Rite Aid after loading up a few bags with stolen goods.
Rapaport’s video, which has been viewed nearly 170,000 times on Instagram, starts with Rapaport showing the alleged thief strolling out of the Rite Aid.
I just saw this at my RITE AID
“I can’t believe I’m seeing this s–t,” Rapaport can be heard saying on a second video, uploaded to TikTok.
The video clearly shows the shoplifter walking right past a security guard, who made no effort to stop the suspect.
“This f–—g guy just filled his two bags up with everything in Rite Aid, right here on 80th [Street] and First Avenue, is walking down the street like s–t is Gucci. Looking me in my face like, ‘what’s good?’ I was watching him the whole time,” he added.
“My man just went Christmas shopping in January. He had the condoms, the shampoo,” Rapaport continued.
In the Instagram video’s caption, the comedian noted that the Rite Aid would be closing its doors soon because of such thefts.
The NYPD and Rite Aid have not responded to multiple requests from media to comment on the incident in Rapaport’s videos.
“You see all these videos on Instagram of people shoplifting like they’re going for a walk in the park. It’s pathetic that this is happening in the greatest city in the world,” Rapaport went on to say in his Instagram video.
A security guard told Rapaport the Rite Aid in the video, on 81st Street and 2nd Avenue, is hit with thefts of the same nature on an almost daily basis.
Rapaport blames former Mayor Bill de Blasio for what critics have called the city’s soft-on-crime enforcement.
Crime in New York City has surged since the beginning of 2022.
