Trump Sues Hillary Clinton, Others Over Russia Collusion Allegations During 2016 Campaign

Former President Donald Trump sued Hillary Clinton and others Thursday for claiming his campaign worked with Russians to steal the 2016 election from the Democrats, Reuters reports.

Trump’s lawyers filed the lawsuit in the Southern District of Florida, describing Clinton’s behavior as “unthinkable” and “shocking.”

“In the run-up to the 2016 Presidential election, Hillary Clinton and her cohorts orchestrated an unthinkable plot — one that shocks the conscience and is an affront to this nation’s democracy,” the lawsuit says.

“Acting in concert, the defendants maliciously conspired to weave a false narrative that their Republican opponent, Donald J. Trump, was colluding with a hostile foreign sovereignty,” it says. “The actions taken in furtherance of their scheme — falsifying evidence, deceiving law enforcement, and exploiting access to highly-sensitive data sources — are so outrageous, subversive and incendiary that even the Watergate [scandal] pale in comparison.”

In 2019, Special Counsel Robert Mueller released his report after months of investigation, stating there was no evidence Donald Trump or anyone working on his campaign “colluded” with Russia to interfere in the 2016 election.

“The investigation did not find that the Trump campaign, or anyone associated with it, conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in these efforts, despite multiple efforts from Russian-affiliated individuals to assist the Trump campaign,” concludes the Mueller Report.
