Transgender Movement Is About 'Surrender,' Ben Shapiro Says

Comments come as numerous organizations give transgender men women's awards, and data shows youth identifying as trans has doubled

Ben Shapiro, a conservative writer, television host, and co-owner of The Daily Wire, says that the recent push to normalize transgenderism is about forcing society to comply with the demands of radical leftist elites.

He made the statement in a three-part thread posted to Twitter on April 3.

“Our elite don’t really think some men are women. It’s about forcing ritual obeisance,” he told his 5.5 million followers. “The more ritual obeisance they demand, the more you comply, the more they can trust your fealty. This is why their rituals grow increasingly arcane and their demands ever more arduous.”

Shapiro added:

This is why all your bosses are using pronouns in their bios. It’s not to convey information about their “gender.” It’s to convey information about their political and philosophical loyalties.

This is precisely why you should not comply. The radical agenda demands absolute fealty but masks it as a demand for civility. What they want is not civility but surrender. Those who are stupid enough to believe the rhetorical sleight-of-hand deserve what they get.

Previously, in a 12-minute video, Shapiro outlined how the push to erase distinctions between male and female was a key tenet of third-wave feminism, which sought to make sex and gender distinctions arbitrary.

Shapiro’s latest comments follow a Women’s History Month that saw numerous awards and honors going to biological men who self-identify as women.

ESPN was slammed for celebrating Women’s History Month by honoring transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, a biological man, who has dominated women’s sports since identifying as a woman.

Days before, USA Today honored a transgender lawmaker from Minnesota on its annual “Women of the Year list,” as discussed on Fox News’s “Outnumbered” panel.

Earlier in March, the U.S. State Department announced it would honor Argentinian transgender activist Alba Rueda, a biological man, with a 2023 International Women of Courage Award. As the State Department noted, Rueda “actively campaigned to change the name of the National Women’s Conference to the ‘Plurinational Conference of Women and Lesbian, Cross-Dresser, Transgender, Bisexual, Intersex and Non-Binary Persons’ to include diverse, dissident, and racialized identities.”

Over recent years, there has been a spike in the number of individuals who identify as transgender. According to new research from the UCLA School of Law Williams Institute, the number of young people who self-identify as transgender has doubled, with more than 1.6 million adults and youth in the U.S. now identifying as transgender.

Many have attributed the spike to social contagion and the popularization of transgender topics in schools and the media.

Other research has concluded that social contagion is not driving an increase in young people identifying as transgender.
