Republican Senate Candidate Herschel Walker To Sue The Daily Beast

'It Will Be Filed Tomorrow Morning' Said The Former NFL Star Monday

Republican Georgia Senate candidate Herschel Walker is filing a lawsuit against the Daily Beast for defamation, according to a Monday Tweet.

The proposed lawsuit comes after a Monday article published by the Daily Beast claimed the Senate hopeful had allegedly paid an anonymous woman he was dating $700 for an abortion in 2009. The story was independently corroborated with a close friend of the woman, according to the outlet. Per the woman’s statement, Walker was not married and told her it was “not the right time” to have a baby, thereby allegedly encouraging her to seek an abortion.

Walker’s campaign and personal lawyer Robert Ingram reportedly said the story was false after the Daily Beast reached out to his team for comment. Ingram claimed the outlet was solely concerned with targeting black conservatives and allegedly asked the outlet to disclose the woman’s identity which they reportedly declined.

“This is a flat-out lie — and I deny this in the strongest possible terms,” said Walker in his Twitter post shortly after the article was published.

This is another repugnant hatchet job from a Democrat activist disguised as a reporter who has obsessively attacked my family and tried to tear me down since this race started. He’s harassed friends of mine, asking if I fathered their children. He’s called my children “secret” because I didn’t want to use them as campaign props in a political campaign. Now, they’re using an anonymous source to further slander me. They will do anything to hold onto power. It’s disgusting, guttural politics. I’m not taking this anymore. [I’m] planning to sue the Daily Beast for this defamatory lie. It will be filed tomorrow morning.

The Daily Beast’s source is reportedly a registered Democrat and has maintained communication with Walker since the alleged abortion though claims she was unaware of Walker’s political aspirations. In June, the Daily Beast reportedly interviewed the former NFL star about his previous partners seeking an abortion. Walker expressed his opposition to abortion in a September statement to Politico regarding Republican South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham’s 15-week federal ban proposal

Raphael Warnock wants to protect the killing of babies right up to the moment of birth. We need to do better,” Walker told the outlet. “I am a proud pro-life Christian, and I will always stand up for our unborn children. I believe the issue should be decided at the state level, but I WOULD support this policy.”

The president of National Right to Life, Carol Tobias, said in August, “Herschel Walker will be a most effective champion for unborn babies and their mothers in Washington and he has demonstrated the passion and perseverance it takes to win the critically important Georgia Senate race.”

“To say that it is OK for a woman to kill her baby when [God] said ‘Thou shall not kill.’ And I said, you know, I can’t, I can’t square it,” said Walker at a conservative Christian values roundtable this August, per the Daily Beast. “I can’t get around that.”

Walker will face Democratic Georgia Senate incumbent Warnock in the November general election.
