Republican Congressional Staffer Attacked Outside His Residence By Armed Man

A staffer for Republican Congressman Brad Finstad was attacked outside of his DC residence by an armed man on Wednesday evening.

According to Rep. Finstad’s office, the attack took place after the Congressional Baseball Game.

“Following Wednesday’s Congressional Baseball Game, one of my staffers was attacked outside of his residence by an armed gunman,” the congressman tweeted. “Thankfully, he will be able to make a full recovery and the extent of his physical injuries was minor.”

In a statement about the incident, he added that “in Washington, D.C. and cities across the country, anti-police, soft-on-crime policies have created lawless societies that endanger the public and empower criminal behavior. It’s time we started treating criminals like criminals and bring back commonsense policies that imprison career criminals, keep the public safe, and allow our police officers to adequately protect our communities and keep violent criminals off the streets.”

The attack was part of a robbery attempt and does not appear to be politically motivated.

“The victim was attacked on Van Street SE, just north of Nationals Park, after 3 a.m. Thursday, a police report says. Two people pushed him to the ground and pointed a handgun at him. He was able to run away without being robbed,” NBC News reports.

As of Friday evening, no arrests have been reported in connection with the attack.

NBC reports that in DC, “Assaults with a dangerous weapon are up by 5% this year, from 623 to 652 reported crimes, District crime statistics show. Robberies are up 31%, from 987 to 1,295 reports.”

In May, two members of Virginia Congressman Gerry Connolly’s staff were attacked by a man with a baseball bat at his office in Fairfax.

The 73-year-old Democrat representative said the attacker was looking for him at his district office in Fairfax when the incident occurred.

The two staff members were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
