Rapper 'Superstar Pride' Charged With First-Degree Murder

Popular rapper Cadarrius Pride, who performs under the name “Superstar Pride,” has been charged with murder for a shooting in Mississippi on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old’s single “Painting Pictures” reached number 25 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 2022 after going viral on TikTok.

According to a report from TMZ, the Panola County Sheriff’s Office was called to a residence and discovered 40-year-old Marcus Wheatley dead from gunshot wounds.

“The ‘Painting Pictures’ rapper surrendered to authorities a few hours later, and deputies say he was booked at the Panola County Detention Center,” according to the report. “Prosecutors charged him with first-degree murder.”

Law enforcement has not revealed any other details about the crime, including the possible motive or connection to the victim.

Pride was 20-years-old and working at his uncle’s car shop when his song exploded on social media and skyrocketed his music career.

“Pride knew he might not be working at his uncle’s car shop much longer when the TikTok clip quickly went viral and compiled 2.3 million views in just four hours. Listeners couldn’t get enough of ‘Painting Pictures’ — which, along with Pride’s unorthodox business in the front, party in the back style of haircut, allowed him to stand out in what’s a typically copycat genre,” Billboard reported in May.
