Ottawa Police Consider Deploying Canadian Military to Remove ‘Freedom Truckers’ from the Capital

Officials in Ottawa are considering deploying the Canadian military to remove the ‘Freedom Truckers’ convoy from the capital.

Ottawa Police Chief Peter Sloly issued the warning Wednesday night after accusing the anti-vaccine protesters of posing a “massive risk” to the public and Canadian lawmakers.

“We do not want riots, but all options remain on the table,” he said.

“Residents have been abandoned during a national crisis – an occupation of our city,” said city councillor Catherine McKenney.

“To the nearly 90% of truckers across the country who’ve gotten vaccinated and are working hard to keep our shelves stocked and our economy moving: Thank you. Just like we’ve relied on you, you can rely on us to stand with you – and make sure you can do your job safely,” said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau while isolating after a COVID-19 diagnosis.

He previously labeled some protesters associated with the ‘Freedom Convoy’ as “antisemitic, Islamophobic, anti-Black, and homophobic.”

“Today in the House, Members of Parliament unanimously condemned the antisemitism, Islamophobia, anti-Black racism, homophobia, and transphobia that we’ve seen on display in Ottawa over the past number of days. Together, let’s keep working to make Canada more inclusive,” posted the progressive leader on February 1st.
