Kemp Denies State Senator Moore's Request For Special Session Investigating DA Willis

'I Have Not Seen Any Evidence That DA Willis's Actions Or Lack Thereof Warrant Action By The Prosecuting Attorney Oversight Commission'

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has denied a request for a special session from the state legislature to investigate district attorney Fani Willis after she indicted former President Donald Trump earlier this month.

Kemp responded to State Senator Colton Moore’s call for Willis to be investigated during a Thursday press conference.

The Georgia governor referenced his previous remarks in the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, denying a special session to investigate the state’s handling of the election, referring to it as “unconstitutional.”

“There have been calls by one individual in the general assembly … for a special session to ignore current Georgia law, directly interfere with the proceedings of a separate but equal branch of government,” Kemp said of Moore. “We are now seeing what happens when prosecutors move forward with highly charged indictments and trials in the middle of an election.”

Kemp says the act would sew “distrust” and provide “easy pickings” for critics of DA Willis.

“Up to this point, I have not seen any evidence that DA Willis’s actions or lack thereof warrant action by the prosecuting attorney oversight commission,” he concluded. “As long as I’m governor, we are going to follow the law and the Constitution — regardless of who it helps politically.”

State Senator Moore sent a letter to Kemp following Trump’s indictment in Fulton County by Willis regarding his questioning of the 2020 presidential election.

“America is under attack,” Moore wrote on X. “I’m not going to sit back and watch as radical left prosecutors politically TARGET political opponents.”

The brief letter read:

We, the undersigned, being duly elected members of the Georgia House of Representatives and Georgia Senate, and comprising 3/5 of each respective house, pursuant to Article IV, Section II, Paragraph VII(b), hereby certify to you, in writing, with a copy to the Secretary of State, that in our opinion an emergency exists in the affairs of the state, requiring a special session to be convened under that section, for all purposes, to include, without limitation, the review and response to the actions of Fani Willis.

Trump praised Georgia State Senator Colton Moore after he sent a letter last week to governor Brian Kemp requesting an emergency session of the Georgia State Legislature to review Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.

“Highly respected Georgia State Senator Colton Moore deserves the thanks and congratulations of everyone for having the courage and conviction to fight the Radical Left Lunatics who are so badly hurting the Great State of Georgia, and the USA itself,” Trump wrote. “Failed D.A. Fani Willis, who has allowed Atlanta (Fulton County) to become a record setting Murder and Violent Crime War Zone, with almost no retribution, shockingly indicted your favorite President, me, for a PERFECT PHONE CALL.”
