Israel’s minister of communications Shlomo Karhi has slammed former President Donald Trump over his “shameful” comments about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Speaking at a rally in Florida on Wednesday night, the Republican presidential frontrunner called out Netanyahu for backing out of a plan to kill Iranian Qasem Soleimani — but taking credit for it anyways.
“We had everything all set to go, and the night before it happened, I got a call that Israel will not be participating in this attack,” Trump said. “We were disappointed by that. Very disappointed. But we did the job ourselves, with absolute precision … and then Bibi tried to take credit for it.”

Seemingly referring to Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, Trump also said, “They have a national defense minister or somebody saying, ‘I hope Hezbollah doesn’t attack us from the north.’ So the following morning, they attacked … If you listen to this jerk, you would attack from the north because he said, ‘That’s our weak spot.’”
Trump also said that Hezbollah was “very smart” for following the comments.
Netanyahu was the first world leader to congratulate President Joe Biden after the 2020 election, during a time when many in Trump’s camp were still contesting the results.
In his response to Trump’s comments at the rally, Karhi told Israel’s Channel 13 that Trump was spreading anti-Israel “propaganda,” and suggested that Israel “obviously” cannot count on him as an ally, according to a report from Newsweek.
“[It is] shameful that a man like that, a former US president, abets propaganda and disseminates things that wound the spirit of Israel’s fighters and its citizens,” Karhi told Israel’s Channel 13. “We don’t have to bother with him and the nonsense he spouts.”
Biden responded to Trump’s speech in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Our nation’s support for Israel is resolute and unwavering.
And the right time to praise the terrorists who seek to destroy them is never. https://t.co/5UbfHZ9iPv
