U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland will appoint a special counsel to continue two investigations into former President Donald Trump.
The special counsel will oversee the Justice Department’s investigation into documents seized by FBI agents at Trump’s Florida estate at Mar-a-Lago, as well as a separate probe into circumstances surrounding January 6.
Garland will make a formal announcement on Nov. 18, according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
The special counsel appointment may stem from concerns that federal prosecutors are targeting Trump for political reasons, after he announced his candidacy for the 2024 election.
This is a developing story and will be updated when more information is available.
