6th Grader Saves Lives During Two Separate Incidents in The Same Day, Becomes Honorary Police Officer

A 6th grader in Oklahoma is being honored by his community after saving two lives in one day — during separate emergencies.

The student, Davyon Johnson of Muskogee, has been named an honorary member of the police and sheriff’s departments after his heroic actions.

First, Johnson saved another student by performing the Heimlich when they began choking on a bottle cap. Later in the day, he saved a disabled woman from a burning house.

Principal Latricia Dawkins called the student a “dual hero,” according to a report from the Muskogee Phoenix.

“He has always indicated that he wants to be an EMT,” Dawkins said. “So he got to put that desire into action and immediately saved that young man.”

“He is just a kind soul and well-liked by his peers and staff alike,” Dawkins added.

The principal explained that another student had been trying to loosen a bottle cap with his mouth when it slipped down his throat and blocked his airway. The student wandered into a classroom where Johnson happened to be.

“Davyon immediately sprinted over and did the Heimlich maneuver,” Dawkins said. “From the account of the witnesses, when he did it the bottle cap popped out.”

Johnson said that he learned how to do the Heimlich maneuver on YouTube and recommended others do the same.

Later that day, Johnson happened to walk past a home that was on fire and spotted the woman trying to get out.

“It was a disabled lady and she was walking out of her house,” Davyon told the local paper. “She was on her porch. But I thought, being a good citizen, I would cross and help her get into her truck and leave.”

At the time, the back of the house was on fire, but it quickly spread to the front where she was. He helped her get to safety.

Davyon’s mother LaToya Johnson told the paper, “I’m just a proud mom.”
