Bruce Springsteen fans are required to be vaccinated to attend his upcoming New York concerts — but you’re out of luck if you received the AstraZeneca jab.
The musician’s five night run at the St James theatre will only be open to people who have received vaccines that are approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, the ones from Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech and Johnson & Johnson.
“At the direction of New York State, Springsteen on Broadway and the St James Theatre will only be accepting proof of FDA-approved Covid-19 vaccines,” the official website says.
The Standard reports that “Canadian fans have expressed disappointment as the country is just hours across the border with 1.7 million people having already been given the Oxford-developed vaccine.” The Toronto Star newspaper reported on the policy with the headline “Burn in the USA”, writing “the show must go on. But if you got the AstraZeneca vaccine, you’re not invited.”
On Tuesday, people who are skeptical of the vaccines protested outside a Foo Fighters concert in California that banned unvaccinated fans.
“Dave Grohl is an ignorant punk who needs slapped for supporting Discrimination,” former child star Ricky Schroder wrote in a Facebook post on Sunday, referring to the Foo Fighters singer. “Ignorance comes in all shapes & sizes. Kurt Cobain is laughing at you Dave along with Millions of Patriots….Fool.”
Schroder was present for the protest.
The AstraZeneca vaccine has come under intense scrutiny because a number of people who have taken it suffered a very rare form of blood clotting. Forbes reports that it has now been restricted in Australia, Italy, Greece and more.
Several countries had opted to allow the cheaper vaccine for younger people, but it turned out that they were the group with the highest risk for the clots.
The Forbes report added that Regulators have repeatedly emphasized the safety of the AstraZeneca vaccine and underscored that any benefits outweigh any possible risks.
